Grounds Committee Report

The Committee held its opening meeting on April 24 to discuss the details of the Spring Walkabout that will be completed by the end of May. Homeowners are reminded to observe the policies set forth in the "Community Handbook" for guidelines ensuring our safe and beautiful neighborhoods.

Earth Day was observed on April 22 and hopefully many homeowners were able to get outside the prior weekend to meet with neighbors and work in the garden on one of the few warm weather weekends this Spring.

A Tip to help keep Northbrook beautiful is to package up shipping materials such as Styrofoam peanuts to prevent them from scattering all over. Although they are degradable, it still takes months of sunlight exposure to accomplish this!

Last Spring volunteers gathered up three 55-gallon bags of Winter debris. Rain Date will be Sunday, June 23.
A very observant homeowner on Echowoods, Ruth Wolfe, noticed a blight on her ornamental crabapple trees. She investigated the problem at a local nursery and advises that copper sulfate and fertilization are the appropriate treatments for this highly infectious bacterial disease which is transmitted through infected pruning tools.

A total of six trees on Echowoods, Fallsbrook, Wrabel, and Stillmeadow have been identified thus far. If you notice additional infected trees, please report them as soon as possible to the Grounds Committee or Gary Trudell (261- 7323) who is conferring with our grounds superintendent, to identify, treat, and prevent further spread.

The Second Annual Garden Contest will be held this year. Judging will take place Labor Day week. Prizes for the most colorful and creative gardens and Street Sign Mini-Gardens will be awarded. The following guidelines must be followed in order to qualify: Preregistration with the G&R Committee.

The Second Annual Spring Cleanup will be held on Saturday, June 22, weather permitting. All are welcome to participate in cleaning up the entrances and wooded areas of accumulated winter debris.

Join us at 10:30 A.M. at the Clubhouse for a great opportunity for some exercise that will make you come away with a great feeling! Plastic bags will be provided, but please bring your own work gloves.
